Wind Turbine Installation - Case Studies
With numbers of Coemi installations growing fast, the simplicity of using a the Coemi-Skywing hydraulically raised tower. This means there is no need for an expensive crane or towers to raise or lower the turbine tower. To carry out routine yearly maintenance the turbine & tower are simply lowered using a portable hydraulic power pack.
Robert & Leslie Lane have farmed in Chudworth Somerset for many years. They have owed their 5kW Coemi turbine since June 2008. The installation is a conventional fixed magnet turbine grid linked through an inverter.
They are regularly seeing up to a 1000kWh per month being generated making the turbine a worthwhile investment. The average wind speed for the area was 5.4m/s, however Robert and Leslie had previously owned a 3kW-wind turbine on the same site which charged a battery bank, before they were able to have the mains connected to the site.
Farmer Robert Herford invested in a 10Kw Coemi Skywing wind turbine to boost energy supply to his 520-acre Cornish farm near St Columb Major.
The 12-metre high wind turbine was bought with the help of grant aid from the Regional Development Agency.
Robert knows that the Coemi wind turbine will slash his electricity bills and soon energy on the farm will cost nothing; instead he’ll be paid for putting green energy back into the National Grid. He expects the turbine will produce around 25,000kW per annum.
The installation of the 10kW Skywing proved a breeze with Coemi’s hydraulic ram system. No crane was necessary and the whole process took less than two days.
Robert was so pleased with the result he invited people from all over the UK to come and see the Skywing at an Open Day in December 2009.
Jeff James of Talerddig, Powys, mid Wales. This was one of the first installations to use the hydraulically raised tower, situated on the side of a mountain 400 meters above sea level.
The 5kW permanent magnet turbines is grid linked through an Aurora 6kW inverter.
Installed in April 2009 generation is around 25 to 30kW per day on average with and expectation of 9,000kWh generation per annum.
Robert & Shirley Baker of Westlyng in Somerset, have owned their turbine since July 2008. Robert a retired engineer erected his turbine himself leaving the Coemi engineers to commission the installation.
They have a grid linked installation with a conventional 5kW permanent magnet generator linking to the grid through an Aurora 6kW inverter.
So far they have seen almost 100kWh’s generated in one day and to date have over 5,000kWh generated.
